Technical Sales Engineer

This position will be responsible for working with external customers, internal teams and global counterparts to manage and expand the technical sales of PHYTEC products. The ideal Technical Sales Engineer is a self-starter, attentive to detail, and possesses a strong degree of ownership while working both independently and within the PHYTEC organization. 

With a parent company in Germany, PHYTEC is engaged in the development, sales, technical support and marketing of industrial computer products.  We support customers throughout North America from our Seattle area locations.

Functions/Responsibilities

  • Solicit and parse complex technical requirements from new and existing customers and align these needs with product and service offerings from PHYTEC
  • Establish and maintain sales forecasting data
  • Represent PHYTEC at industry events and trade shows; train distributor field engineers and sales reps via in person visits, webinars etc.
  • Utilize PHYTEC’s “best practice” processes and tools; contribute to continuous process improvements
  • Generate and qualify leads by depicting the value of PHYTEC products and services to prospective and existing customers
  • Serve as general point of contact for customer RFQs and Purchase Order submittal, including review of Purchase and Sales documents 
  • Use CRM, ERP and other tools to maintain operational relations with customers, including management of discrete and blanket orders, buffer stock and delivery releases against requested dock dates, demand forecasting
  • Liaison with Supply Chain to align customer demand with supply of product from manufacturers
  • Establish and maintain sales forecasting data and pricing lists
  • Liaison with Engineering Services as needed for deeper technical engagement with customers
  • Utilize PHYTEC’s “best practice” processes and tools; contribute to continuous process improvements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related engineering field
  • Deep domain experience and a record of success in supporting customers and sales engagements in the following technical areas:
    • Distributed field bus systems (Controller Are Networks, ProfiBus, EtherCat), Programmable Unit Subsystems (PRUSS), ModBus,
    • Radio Frequency (RF)
    • Sensor and Actuators (Time of Flight)
    • Microcontrollers and Processors, including Digital Signal Processing (DSP)
    • Safety / Security, including: ISO 9001 quality and safety, agency approvals and safety conformance, CE, FM/CSA (explosion proof, fireproof), IP, Hazardous area locations
  • Deep understanding of technical product datasheets, drawings and specifications; the ability to use this knowledge to respond to customer Request for Proposals (RFPs) and other customer inquiries
  • 2+ years of experience working in technical sales or the engineering field, including sales of standard product customized to meet specific customer requirements
  • Knowledge of vertical markets including: automation, security, power, oil and gas and general embedded applications
  • High-level proficiency in Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Experience with CRM software (SalesForce) and collaboration tools
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally when required
  • Proven history of managing multiple projects and activities
  • Ability to quickly understand end customer products and applications

Compensation Package Summary

PHYTEC provides a comprehensive benefits package for eligible employees that includes company-paid medical, vision and dental coverage, an employer-matched 401(k) plan, a profit-based bonus plan, and generous vacation and sick leave benefits. Salary depends on experience and qualifications.

Hours

Full-time position – 40 hours/week: Monday through Friday 8:00 am — 5:00 pm (flexible)
